Happy Birthday to my favourite film director and pretty much the best music video director out there as well IMO. Controversial I know. Anyway, it’s really hard to pick a favourite out of all of them, but I’m going to have to go with this one because it’s a great song, the video is just really cool and I have a personal connection with it. The White Stripes “The Hardest Button to Button.”

I know there have already been countless posts and news articles and pictures posted but I have to add my small tribute to the passing of Adam Yauch aka MCA of the Beastie Boys. I only just found out and am absolutely shellshocked and saddened. Perhaps more so than other recent deaths as they have been a part of my life since I was 16.
This song, “Sure Shot” is taken from their amazing album “Ill Communication” which came out around my last year of high school. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing when listened to it for the first time. I was absolutely blown away and would become a fan for life and they remain one of my all time favourites. There is truly nothing like this album. I have only ever seen them live once, but that concert was amazing and remains one of my most fondest memories. It was with Mix Master Mike in 1999 in Brisbane, Australia on the River Stage. They were so full of energy and enthusiasm and just sounded awesome.
The line rapped by Adrock “I’m that kid in the corner, all fucked up and I wanna so I’m gonna” is the tagline on my tumblr. But I think the line that also seals this song for me is rapped by MCA himself. Showing true awareness, reflection and sensitivity he says:
“I want to say a little something that’s long overdue,
The Disrespect to women has got to be through,
To all the mothers and the sisters and the wives and friends,
I wanna offer my love and respect to the end.”
RIP Adam, you have my respect and thank you.
